Motivation is a problem which never entirely goes away. No matter how successful you might be, no matter how much money you make and no matter how much you love your job, you might still feel unmotivated from time to time.
In fact, people who are at the peak of their career often say that they have to keep trying to motivate themselves as much as they did before. It’s not as though success gets you to a place where you suddenly become enthusiastic and productive, no matter what happens. As you climb the ladder at your workplace, certain problems might go away but other problems present themselves. So you need to constantly keep trying to motivate yourself.
Physical Reasons Why You Might Be Feeling Unmotivated
Are you simply feeling a little ill? Do you have a backache from sitting at your computer for hours? Do you feel fatigued? Are you underslept?
Remember that it’s important to keep taking care of your body at every stage of the process. Make sure you get enough sleep. Exercise regularly. Eat well. If you keep skipping out on sleep and exercise and start eating junk food to compensate and give yourself a momentary high, you might be able to function in the short term but not the long run.
Mental Reasons Why You Might be Feeling Unmotivated
Let’s say you’ve examined yourself to see if there might be a physical reason why you’re not motivated. And maybe you find that there isn’t really any physical reason. Physically, you’re doing fine. However, you just keep putting off the tasks you have to do due to a lack of motivation.
This could just be because you’ve worked a lot and you need a break. Even though your brain is always active, that doesn’t mean that you have to keep pushing it further and further. Take a break. Go for a movie. Take a vacation if need be. Remember that your mental needs are as important as your physical needs.
Keep in touch with your feelings. Are you anxious? Depressed? Bored? If you find that the answer to any of these is “yes,” then think about what’s making you feel that way. If a personal problem is intruding into your professional life, you might need to resolve it first. Or if relationships with colleagues are stressing you out, think about what you could do to improve them.
Remember that there’s a solution to every problem, a way in which you can motivate yourself no matter what the issue. You might just need to use some ingenuity to keep going.
