Should You Visualize Happiness or Success?

Many people believe that visualization can get you where you want to go. The rules of visualization, as described in The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, gained a huge amount of popularity, with people trying to visualize relationships, money, promotions and even parking spaces into their lives!

Visualizing Things That Make You Happy

Yes, you can use visualization for anything. But it is important to make sure that the thing you are visualizing is something you truly want, something that’s going to bring joy into your life. Because you can end up getting something you visualized and still feel that you’re not happy. This can happen with love, the perfect home, the perfect body etc.

So the first thing a person should do when visualizing is to make sure that that visualization includes an element of happiness. It should be a visualization of happiness at the same time as it is a visualization of love, success, money etc.

It’s not terribly difficult to do this. All you have to do is ask yourself whether the thing you are visualizing will make you happier. If it will, then go for it. If not, then think about what will make you happier and go with that.

Moving Your Business/Career in the Right Direction

Even when it comes to your business or your career, you should consider your happiness. We all assume that growing your business will make you happy or getting a promotion will make you happy. But there might be times when you might prefer to keep your business small or continue working at a lower level position.

Maybe you want to give each customer personal attention which you won’t be able to do once you start mass-producing your product. Or maybe you’d rather work at a low-level position where you’re coming directly in contact with customers rather than a high level position where you have to manage other employees. Management is not everyone’s cup of tea and being in a management position is likely to make some people miserable!

This is not to say that visualizing success is a bad thing. It’s just that you should keep in mind that eventually, what you are aiming for is your own happiness. So make sure that your career/business moves in a direction that makes you happy.
