As an employer, you are going to be in charge of your employees. In order to keep them working as hard as they can, you need to make sure that you treat them well.
Want to treat your employees fairly? Here are some tips to help.
Treat them like you would want to be treated. The old saying still rings true. If you wouldn’t want someone to talk to you that way, why would you talk to someone else like that? This rule simply helps us remember that we should treat everyone with kindness and respect!
You should never play favorites. Though you are going to get along and work better with some employees than others, you can’t play favorites. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t think about everyone’s strengths and weaknesses when assigning tasks. If one of your employees is great at brainstorming, let him or her do that. One of your employees may be more creative and does better with marketing, so he or she would prefer those tasks.
Have clear rules that everyone must follow. All of your rules must be clearly stated, so that all of your employees know that they must be followed at all times.
You also can’t change these rules for one person. You can’t allow someone to break your rules and not be held accountable. Your rules are your rules, and they must be followed by everyone!
Though it is sometimes hard to treat your employees fairly, because you have more in common with one of your employees than others, the truth is that you need to treat everyone fairly. Always think about the golden rule of treating others the way that you want to be treated. This may stop you from saying something that could come out harshly. You should also have set rules that everyone must follow. Nobody should be allowed to get away with breaking them, or you are simply setting yourself up for conflict!
